Description

Netsuke: katabori: Raiden seated with his drum. Wood, carved. Scowling, unshaven figure of Raiden seated on a cloud, his left arm resting on his thunder drum, his hand supporting his head; his right arm around his leg, his bag hanging at his waist. Fine incising and black ink details to tiger-skin loin cloth and leggings. His eyes are of ivory with dark pupils; his drum with two bands of raised, shiny black beading. Himotoshi at the rear of the drum and cloud.

History note: H.S. Reitlinger (d.1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
