Description

Netsuke: katabori: Sennin Tekkai. Ivory, carved and stained. Figure of Sennin Tekkai as an old beggar holding a staff in his right hand, barefoot and wearing a cloak made of leaves revealing his ribs, blowing his spirit into space through his open mouth. He is seated on a gourd. The details are finely carved and incised. Himotoshi on the underside.

History note: H.S. Reitlinger (d.1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
