Three male figures wearing top hats; the older figure on the left (John Lawless, 1773–1837) holds a monocle in his right hand; the central figure (Daniel O'Connell, 1775-1847), a taller, heavy-set man with dark curly hair holds an umbrella across his right shoulder; the third figure on the right (Richard Lalor Sheil, 1791-1851), a shorter, slighter man folds his arms and looks angrily at the central figure. The artist's monogram at lower left: 'HB.'. The printer's details printed below the border at lower left: 'Printed by C. Motte, 23. Leicester Sq.'. The captions for each figure printed below the border from left to right: 'HONEST JACK / The Hero of Ballibay (Lawless); THE GREAT AGITATOR (O'Connell); THE LITTLE AGITATOR / the Hero of Penenden' (Sheil). The title and publisher's details printed below at lower centre: 'THE THREE AND THE DEUSE / Published by Thos. McLean, 26. Haymarket'. Handwritten in graphite at upper right: '8'. See 15832 and 15832A ('A state without 'Sepr 6th ...' in the publication line'),_Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires_, Vol. XI, 1828-1832, M.D. George, published 1954, pp. 176-77.
