Lithograph (uncoloured) on white wove paper. Inlaid within a frame of buff wove paper (approx. height 360mm x width 515mm). Lord Grey (Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey, 1764-1845; Prime Minister from 22 November 1830 to 16 July 1834) sits on a rock at the far right, holding a shepherd's crook in his left hand and holding out a Chancellor's wig in his right towards the three standing figures, l-r: Lord Plunket (William Conyngham Plunket, 1st Baron Plunket, 1764-1854), dressed as Chancellor (of Ireland); Leach (Sir John Leach, 1760-1834), dressed in judge's wig, band and gown; Brougham (Henry Peter Brougham, 1st Baron Brougham and Vaux, 1778-1868; Lord Chancellor from 24 November 1830 - 9 July 1834), also dressed in wig, band and gown and wearing checked trousers. The artist's initials in monogram at lower left: 'HB'. Title printed below the border: 'THE JUDGMENT OF PARIS / Out of regard to the delicate feelings of the Society for the suppression of vice. HB has made free with classic truth, by enrobing the rival beauties'. The publisher's details printed below: 'Published by Thos McLean, 26 Haymarket - / Novr 30th 1830.'. Printer's details below the border at lower right: 'Printed by C. Motte, 23, Leicester Sqre.'. Handwritten in graphite at upper right: '95'. See 16357,_Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires_, Vol. XI, 1828-1832, M.D. George, published 1954, p. 380. A number '[95]' printed in square brackets in the right-hand margin on p. 380 relates to the handwritten number at upper right, both referencing the sequence of John Doyle's Political Sketches series.
