Lithograph (uncoloured) on white wove paper. Inlaid within a frame of buff wove paper (approx. height 360mm x width 515mm). Three top-hatted men sitting on a bench (presumably in the House of Lords or Commons), from left to right: William Cobbett, John Charles Spencer, Viscount Althorp (later 3rd Earl Spencer) and Edward George Geoffrey Smith-Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby. Sir Francis Burdett, 5th Baronet, stands behind, a cane raised to his lips. Signed with monogram at lower left: 'HB'. Title printed below the border: ' "YOU MAY KNOW A MAN BY THE COMPANY HE KEEPS.".' The publisher's details printed below left: 'Published by Thos. McLean, 26, Haymarket, Feb. 14th. 1833'. A small, circular blind stamp at lower left: 'THOs. MCLEAN'. Printer's details below the border at lower right: 'A. Ducôté's Lithogy. 70, St. Martins Lane'. Printed above the border at upper right: 'HB Sketches No. 241'.
