Lithograph (uncoloured) on white wove paper. Inlaid within a frame of buff wove paper (approx. height 360mm x width 515mm). Two men dressed as women (Daniel O'Connell on the right and Edward John Littleton on the left) are flinging mud at one another. Lord Althorp, standing behind Littleton, gets hit in the eye. Lord Stanley watches at the centre. Signed with artist's monogram at lower left: 'HB'. Title printed below the border: 'A SHOCKING DIRTY AFFAIR.'. The publisher's details printed below the border to the left: 'Published by Thos. McLean, 26, Haymarket, July 10th, 1834.'. A small, circular blind stamp at lower left: 'THOs. MCLEAN'. Printer's details are not given. (See also No. 329, P.14753-R, which was also published on July 10th, 1834). Printed above the border at upper right: 'HB Sketches No. 327.'.
