Lithograph (uncoloured) on white wove paper. Inlaid within a frame of buff wove paper (approx. height 360mm x width 515mm). A man wearing academic robes and pince-nez - the Duke of Wellington - in his role as Chancellor of Oxford University - stands at a lectern and reads in Latin from a paper he is holding. A man in robes, seen from behind and a woman wearing a large bonnet (Princess Lieven) beside him in profile, facing right, stand below the lectern. Spectators in the background include, at the far right, Lord Eldon, with the Duke of Cumberland to his right. Signed with artist's monogram at lower left: 'HB'. Title printed below the border: 'CONFERRING THE HONORARY DEGREE OF D.C.L.UPON / THE RUSSIAN EMBASSADOR [sic]'. Below the title: '_omitted by mistake in the ceremonies of the 10th June at_ / OXFORD'. The publisher's details printed below the border to the left: 'Published by Thos. McLean, 26, Haymarket, Decr. 20th. 1834.'. Printer's details below the border to the right: 'Ducotes Lithog. 70 St. Martins Lane'. Printed above the border at upper right: 'HB Sketches No. 353'. No. 353 seems to have been published after No. 354.
