Description

Stipple engraving on chine collé? after a drawing of Northcote by Prince Hoare (1755-1834). Portrait of the artist James Northcote (1746-1831) in early middle age within an oval with an outer border. Head and shoulders in profile facing left, right arm slightly raised (as though in the act of painting). Natural hair tied back in a bow, jacket with brass buttons open to reveal white neckband. Inscribed on the plate in the outer border below the image: 'PRINCE HOARE b[d]el.t'. Inscribed on the plate below the oval: 'J. NORTHCOTE. ESQ / R.A.'.
