Description

Etching on laid paper. Small oval plate impressed onto a small sheet of laid paper, presumably cut down. A double-headed head and shoulders portrait; Sir Robert Walpole in profile looking left and George II in profile looking right. Both men wear shoulder-length wigs. Below the image: 'Unity / Touch me touch my Master'. In the margin on the plate at lower centre: 'According to Act'. Inscribed in graphite on the verso: 'George II and Sir Robert Walpole'. The subject presumably relates to the Parliamentary Privilege Act passed in 1737. There is an impression of this print in the Sutherland Collection (Ashmolean Museum, Oxford), printmaker unknown. See catalogue of the Sutherland Collection: 'George II / with Sir Robert Walpole, two profiles on one head. In an oval. "Unity" / "Touch me, touch my Master" - octavo'. See Notes.
