Etching on paper. Head and shoulders portrait of a young man in profile facing right with natural, chin-length hair, curled upwards at the back. He wears a plain coat and neck-tie. An inscription in pen and ink on the board below (probably curatorial in origin): 'REV. JOHN COWPER, FELLOW OF BENET- / CORPUS CHRISTI COLLEGE. BROTHER OF / THE POET.'. Rev. John Cowper (1737-1770) became a Fellow of Corpus Christi (Benet) College, Cambridge in 1763. He was Rector of Foxton from 1765 until his death in 1770.
