Description

Cotton, embroidered with polychrome silks in minute cross stitch.
38.75cm x 44.5cm
15 1/4" x17 1/2"

Inscribed "Alice M Potts aged 15 1887" at the centre bottom of the sampler. At the top bands of upper and lower case alphabets (8), pairs of initials (KP DP AP MP HS WP CMN), presumably family members, also some small repeat pattern bands
The remainder of the sampler comprises symetrically arranged detached motifs set about a central axis of similar motifs: geometric, floral, heraldic etc.
All enclosed by a narrow geometric border.
