Description

Designed by Isaac Newton (as Master of the Mint) for the coronation of Queen Anne. He described the reverse type as symbolic of ‘any Enemy with which Her Majesty hath or may have War’. The double-headed monster being fought by Anne represents the dual threats posed by Louis XIV of France and James Francis Edward Stuart,' the Old Pretender'.
