This medal was struck in honour of the Duke of York, afterwards James II, who greatly distinguished himself in this decisive victory, in which he was commander-in-chief.

Inscription present: Bust of the Duke of York, facing right, hair long, flowing over the right breast, in armour and ample mantle round the shoulders.
Inscription present: Naval engagement, one ship in front, bearing the Admiral's flag and the Royal standard.
