Description

Shagreen, wood, gilt metal and tortoise-shell; with miniature of two cherubs and an urn of flowers

Green shagreen over wood with gilt metal mounts and a tortoise-shell lining, set with a miniature in bodycolour under glass. The circular box has straight sides and a flat pull-off lid. The miniature depicts two cherubs, one standing either side of a carved stone urn of flowers. The cherub on the left is collecting fallen flowers, whilst the one on the right is holding a swag of flowers. Beneath them is a gold heart shot through with an arrow, resting on a double scroll, under which is inscribed "Boux Souvenir"; all on a sky blue ground.
