After the painting by Sir Hubert von Herkomer (1849-1914), (1881; exh. R.A., 1882, no. 251, 'Rev. W. H. Thompson, D.D., Master of Trinity College, Cambridge'; Trinity College, Cambridge). Portrait of Classical scholar and Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, William Hepworth Thompson (1810-1886). Half-length, seated in black, clerical robes, white bands at his neck and a chain at his waist, left knee crossed over the right, right elbow resting on the carved wooden arm of the chair and left hand grasping the end of the arm at the other side. Head with short, white hair, is turned towards the left, eyes directed downwards and away to the left.
