After the portrait by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1767; Mannings 308; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 48.181). George Capel, Viscount Malden (1757-1839) and his older sister, Lady Elizabeth Capel (1755-1834), the only children of William, 4th Earl of Essex. Both figures are full-length and located in a landscape beneath a tree to the right. The boy wears 'Van Dyck' dress and stands looking out towards the spectator and holding a cane in his right hand. His sister is seated to the right and holds a flower garland, looking towards the left. A large urn behind her to the right.
