Note

Caneworking is an ancient technique first used in southern Italy and later developed on the island of Murano. Here, long fine rods (or canes) of white glass have been used to create the intricate pattern.

Clare Wilson (b. 1985) studied at Edinburgh College of Art and in Australia. Now based in the Lake District, she continues to travel widely to work with other skilled makers. She works primarily with cane and murrine techniques, making functional art objects. She is drawn to cane work by the technical challenge it poses and the infinite design possibilities. Her muted palette and frenetic patterning makes her vessels seem exceptionally light and delicate, despite their weight.
