Box, lacquer. In the shape of a moth with outspread wings decorated in gold, black, red and brown. The seated lid (A) is decorated with two brown eyes with black pupils, a gold thorax, a gold abdomen and finely decorated wings. The wing markings are in gold and black hiramakie (low-relief sprinkled design) and kirikane (metal foil cut to various shapes and individually set into a lacquer ground, often as a mosaic) on a nashiji ground. The sides of the box are decorated with gold feathery foliage of hare's foot fern on a nashiji ground. The interior and the base are nashiji (shimmering spangles).
