History note: Probably Renaud‐César de Choiseul‐Praslin, 2nd duc de Choiseul (1735‐1791), and by inheritance to his second son; César‐Hippolyte de Choiseul‐Praslin (1757‐1793), Paris; his sale, A.J. Paillet, Paris, Rue de Lille, 18 February 1793, lot 60 (Deux petits Tableaux srappans de vérité & de plus beau fini; ils représentent les portraits des deux fils de cet Artiste, vus à mi‐corps dans des habillemens noirs, la tête découverte, & ajustés de larges colets de batiste, selon le costume du tems. Haut. 7 p. 6 lig. larg. 5 p. 6 lig.B.)
