Description

Opaque-white glass, blown, and painted in polychrome enamels. Ovoid with flat foot, short neck, and a domed cover with a knob. The jar is decorated with flowers, an insect and a butterfly, and the cover with a smaller spray of flowers

Circa 1760 CE - 1765 CE

Note

On accession the painting was attributed to Michael Edkins of Bristol, but this view is no longer accepted. It seems more likely that the vase was decorated in London or in South Staffordshire, possibly by the painter who signed P.F. or P.P. on water bowl in the Victoria and Albert Museum, dated 1764.
