Description

Coverboards covered in dark red grain-effect paper over board. The first folio is a heavy cram coloured paper, the remainder are cream coloured perforated tracing paper. Collocation: four gatherings containing the following number of folios: twenty three; twenty one; twenty four (three torn out).

Note

This sketchbook contains ideas and studies for a large number of prints. It also contains some proofs and finished engravings, many on an Indian theme and one bookplate for Anthony Toynbee. The subjects of studies include frogs, cats, big cats, goats, a parrot, figure studies, limbs and fabric folds, palm trees, a top hat with accompanying portrait, studies of 'E. J. Dent lecturing'. Page 1(verso) and 2 (recto) have lists of pictures relating to a range of exhibitions in 1938 and 1939.
