Daphnis and Chloë
Draughtsman: Raverat, Gwendolen
Height: 381 mm
Width: 561 mm
Method of acquisition: Given (1994) by Gurney, Sophie, Mrs
Production date: circa AD 1928 : 'Probable' date.
The relationship between the two figures is reminiscent of Raverat's final solution for 'Summer in the Mountains', frontispiece for Daphnis and Chloë, Book 1, Ashendene Press, Chelsea, 1928/31. This may have been intended as a preliminary study or may have been an idea for the series as a whole worked out on a large scale (cf. also PD.25-1994 and PD.26-1994).
