Note

The relationship between the two figures is reminiscent of Raverat's final solution for 'Summer in the Mountains', frontispiece for Daphnis and Chloë, Book 1, Ashendene Press, Chelsea, 1928/31. This may have been intended as a preliminary study or may have been an idea for the series as a whole worked out on a large scale (cf. also PD.25-1994 and PD.26-1994).
