Note

In 1908, when Gwen was 23, she was allowed to go to the Slade School. She studied there for 3 years, and it was during this time that she met Jacques Raverat, whom she married in June 1911. (Jacques went to the Slade himself in Jan. 1910.) This sketchbook therefore was commenced while she was studying, and contains preliminary ideas for wood engravings which were probably completed as follows: 'The Murderer' 1910 ?1911; 'Sir Thomas Browne (Death and the Philosopher' 1910; 'Fair Annie' 1910; Annie of Rough Royal 1910; 'Flying' 1910.
