Note

Susie Cooper introduced a range of hand-carved, matt glazed ‘studio’ pottery in the early 1930s. Bowls and jugs were thrown to her specification, the design was ‘pounced’ onto the surface then carved with a sharp tool. Later pieces were slip cast, then the design sharpened by hand. ‘Squirrel’ pattern (E/345) and other incised matt glazed wares were displayed at the British Industries Fair in January 1932 and an article that year notes their popularity.
