Description

Earthenware, moulded, aeropgraphed on-glaze with smoke blue slip, decorated with sgraffito and painted in brown and black.

Circular earthenware tea/side plate with gently convex sides. Upper surface thinly coated in smoke blue slip, leaving a band of white around the rim. Sgraffito quatrefoil decoration, with hollow dots between the leaves, finished with a feathered wishbone shape in brown and four brown dots. Underside slightly indented and glazed. Unmarked.

History note: Formerly in the collection of Susie Cooper; bequeathed to her son, Timothy Barker, who gave it to the Museum.
