Earthenware, moulded and painted underglaze in pink and green.
Tureen (A), cover (B) and stand (C) in 'Falcon' shape with 'Tree of Life' pattern. Cream earthenware tureen with convex bowl standing on raised, straight-sided foot; two small ‘D’ shaped loop handles. Cover slightly domed with inner rim and cut space for ladle; centre, side-mounted- oval handle. Handles on bowl and cover ridged at sides. ‘Tree of Life’ pattern, stylised tree with four branches on either side, painted in green and pink to each side of bowl and upper surface of cover; band of green outside band of feathered pink inside rim of bowl and around pattern on cover. Underside of bowl foot fully recessed, glazed except for rim.
Cream earthenware tureen stand with convex sides and recessed centre. ‘Tree of Life’ pattern, stylised tree with four branches on either side, painted in green and pink, at centre; band of green outside band of feathered pink towards rim. Underside flat within raised foot-rim, glazed.
History note: Formerly in the collection of Susie Cooper; bequeathed to her son, Timothy Barker, who gave it to the Museum.

‘Falcon’ shape was marketed from 1937. The ‘Tree of Life’ pattern in pink and green is listed as pattern no. 2102; a similar design was produced in sgraffito on aerographed colour. The pattern was shown at the British Industries Fair in 1947.
