Production:
Unidentified Iranian glasshouse
(Probably)
Dark green glass, blown, wheel-engraved, and partly gilt. The bottle stands on a circular base with a very slightly concave pontil mark in the centre. It has a globular body, contracting into a tall, slender neck with an irregular surface on the rim. Inside it has a 'screw' to take a metal sprinkler. Half-way down the neck there is an engraved wreath of paired leaves with remnants of gilding. On the body there are three engraved and gilt stylised roses flanked by leaves.

AD 1770
On accession this bottle was attributed to the San Ildefonso glasshouse which was founded near the royal palace of La Granja by a Catalan glass maker, Ventura Sit, in 1728. The Queen, Isabel Farnese, was impressed by the window and mirror glass made there and built a glasshouse for him on the royal estate. However, it is possible that it could have been made in Iran rather than Spain.
