Description

Thrown red earthenware, coated with terra sigillata slip with inlaid and resist decoration, burnished, bisque-fired, and smoke fired The bowl is trumpet-shaped with a small flat base. The base is decorated with circles of alternate colours. The exterior has narrow black stripes over broader greyish-black mottled stripes separated by reddish-brown mottled stripes. The interior is decorated similarly with in addition black strokes over the reddish-brown stripes.

History note: Purchased from the Scottish Gallery, Dundas Street, Edinburgh, in November 1991 by the TSB, London; passed to Lloyds TSB plc, 71 Lombard Street, London, from whom purchased by the donors
