Description

Gold set with diamonds. The gold hoop divides into three on the shoulder and is set with a row of seven large octagonal rose-cut diamonds flanked by rows of thirteen smaller octagonal rose-cut diamonds, all with closed backs. At each end of the centre row on the shoulder there is a gold bead. Cylindrical case covered in red leather (A).

Notes

History note: The ring was given to the donor's great aunt, Amelia Ball (1844-1912) on her engagement to Dr William Millington 1822-1912). The recipient lived in Dublin; the donor in Cheshire. See a letter from the donor dated 8th October 2000 in the object's file shared with M. 16 and 17-2000.
