Dish. Hard paste porcelain painted underglaze in blue and overglaze in blue, green, yellowish, red, pale red, brown black, manganese, and black enamels, and gold. Circular with gently rounded sides and narrow sloping rim with a raised rim with eight pointed brackets, resting on a low tapered footring. Decorated all over the front with elaborate brocades in seven roughly triangular panels, and over them, two ho-ho birds (phoenix) with flowing gilded tails. The reverse has underglaze blue simplified kraak-style panels of stylised flowers. Five spur marks on the base.

Japanese, Arita. Greenish glaze. The base is not flat. The footring knife-cuts show. Very accurate painting, high quality. Novel enamel colours, all pale. Black and red outlining only: gold infill only. Simplified Kraak panels suggest 19th century or very late 18th century.
