Hard paste porcelain, moulded (thick and heavy), painted underglaze in blue and overglaze in red enamel, and gold in Imari style. The dish is shaped like an ormer (haliotis) shell enhanced with integral moulded decoration. The rounded sides rest on a low tapered footring. The lip has a band of pale brown glaze. The interior is decorated with stylised waves, seashells and seaweed by the seashore. The reverse has four little groups of stylised waves, with a narrow blue line below and two lines round the footring.
