Fritware, covered with a turquoise glaze
Fritware, wheel thrown, covered with a turquoise glaze
Shape: carinated cylindrical body with central ridge; descends onto a conical lower body and flared foot ring and ascends via an additional ridge onto a tubular, collared neck topped by a cup shaped mouth with everted rim.
Exterior: ridges are carved or incised into the surface, otherwise simply coated with a turquoise glaze, which runs over the body and terminates above or on the foot ring.
Interior: mouth is partially covered with glaze; a light covering is present on the remainder of the visible surface.
History note: Purportedly found in the Gurgan area; the father of Major Raymond Ades; Major Raymond Ades; Major Raymond Ades by whom lent to the Fitzwilliam in 1948; the Ades family
