Note

This was thought to be a preliminary study for a ceiling decoration commissioned from Prud'hon c. 1811- the project, never completed, was intended to decorate the ceiling above the Grand Staircase by Percier in the Muséum Central des Arts in the Louvre, 1819. It is probably a copy.
