Description

Ebony, book-shaped, with miniature of a posy of flowers

Ebony set with a miniature in oil, probably on card, mounted under glass in gold; two rectangular sheets of ebony with velvet spine open like a book, which is lined with ivory silk and with two silk pockets for cards, and a long loop for holding a pencil. The front cover is inlaid with an engraved gold border; in the centre is set the oval miniature with gold mount. It depicts a posy of flowers, including roses and fuschia. The back is inlaid with a narrow gold rope border and central vacant cartouche with flower and scroll border. A gilt metal pencil is held in the silk loop.
