Virgin and Child
Production: Unknown
Virgin and Child, carved in limewood in high relief but hollowed at the back. The Virgin is seated on a throne, holding the naked Christ Child on her right knee. Both firgures gaze straight ahead in a hieratic manner. The wood is covered with a linen ground on which much of the original plaster and polychrome still exists, especially the red lining of the veil and the blue of the robe. A separate crown was intended to fit on to the Virgin's head over her hair and veil.
