Kneeling Angel
Kneeling angel, a pair with M.11A-1991. Carved wood, gessoed, painted and gilded. The angel wears a diadem on its curly hair, and a long gown with a turned down collar and crossed straps at the front, one hanging down in front and other behind. The angel kneels on its left knee and with its left hand supports the top of a shield resting on the ground, which is painted with the Virgin Mary.
History note: H.S. Reitlinger (d.1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
