Hercules and the Nemean Lion
Fruitwood, carved in the round, and with a highly polished surface. Both Hercules and the Nemean lion are facing to the left. He stands astride the lion, with his left leg forward, grasping it round the throat with both arms and forcing it backwards so that both its front paws are in the air. The narrow base is carved with foliage which rises up to support the lion's rear quarters, and is there cut off.
