History note: Painted for Alonso Ruiz de Cavala, c. 1480, priest of the church of Torrico, Toledo province, Spain, where it hung from about this time; with the Spanish Art Gallery, London (Lionel Harris), 1910; on loan from them October 1910, and subsequently purchased by the Friends of the Fitzwilliam Museum
