Note

Although this is an unusual form by Braden, recent research has shown that it was not an entirely unique work but part of a small series in which Braden experimented with this form and with swirling decoration, which may have been after the kind popularised by William Staite Murray. Braden chose to keep this work herself, only selling it when she was about to enter a residential care home (her collection was sold at Bonhams, July 1994, lot 138).
