Description

Right wing of a diptych, ivory, carved in relief. Under a triple cusped arch with crocketed gables and two trefoils cut between them, the figure of Christ is in the centre. On the right a tormentor holds a reed and sponge in his left hand and a bucket in his right. He wears a winged cap. Behind this figure stands St John with a book in his right hand. On the left kneels a bearded figure wearing a Jew's hat, who is also mocking Christ, and in his left hand he holds a spear. Behind him stands the Virgin grief-stricken.
