Ivory with gold mounts, miniatures of fruit and flowers on the front and a landscape on the back
Ivory with gold mounts, with miniatures set into the front and back faces. Tapering rectangular etui with slightly domed hinged lid. The mounts round the miniatures, rims and at the top and bottom of the etui are engine turned with decorative borders of ropework. The front and back of the lid each have an openwork gold plaque bearing the words 'SOUVENIR' and 'D’AMITIE' respectively, framed with swags. The miniature on the front is painted in enamel on copper, and depicts flowers and fruit against a black ground. The miniature on the back is probably on card, set under glass, and depicts a rural landscape with a lake and mountain, with figures and a building in the foreground. The interior is fitted with a slot for cards.
