Small copper plate, probably for a visiting card relating to Lord Richard Fitzwilliam, 7th Viscount Fitzwilliam (1745-1816), engraved on the recto: 'Mr Fitzwilliam / St James's Square', within a simple engraved floral border. On the verso, punched initials 'B.W.' below a crown (part burnished or worn away), the mark of copper plate manufacturer, Benjamin Whittow (active 1750, d.1805)

This plate presumably relates to Lord Richard Fitzwilliam, 7th Viscount Fitzwilliam (1745-1816) prior to his inheritance of his father's title in 1776. Fitzwilliam's grandfather, Sir Matthew Decker occupied no. 8, St James's Square from 1721 until his death in 1749 after which his widow, Catherine Decker, continued to occupy the house until 1759.
