Production: Unknown
Ivory, with gilt-metal mounts. Rectangular; the lid of truncated pyramidal form. At each corner are three gilded metal mounts with bulbous ends and tapering points. Two hinged mounts of similar design extend from the top of the lid down the back, and a third extends down the centre of the front of the lid and is hinged to a hasp which fixes into the flat lock-plate in the centre of the front of the box. A small metal handle is in the centre of the lid. The sides of the box are secured by two gilded metal mounts at each corner: the ivory plaques are joined by many dowels, some which are masked by designs in outline. Quatrefoils, dog-tooth and bulbous pointed designs are faintly discernable in outline and partially stained. On the front of the lid is written 'tercia'. Inside is lined with a very pretty 18th (?) century patterned paper. [see Longhurst, 1927]
