History note: Painted for Jeremiah Harman (1764-1844); his sale Christie's 18 June 1847 (111) bought by Sir Charles Lock Eastlake for £55-13s-0d; retained by Lady Eastlake after her husband's death; her posthumous sale Christie's, 2 June 1894 (48) bought by Charles Butler for 25 guneas; by descent in the Butler family until 1997; Agnew's, 125th Annual Exhibition of English Watercolours, drawings and small oil paintings, Feb/March 1998, (84)
