Pink Peony and White Magnolia
A watercolour drawing from the album PD.132-1973. This is a Chinese export watercolour depicting a pink peony with white magnolia branches. The peony displays a large, fully opened bloom with densely layered petals in shades of pink and purple, accompanied by dark green compound leaves. Extending from behind are magnolia branches with white flowers and buds in various stages of development. The painting demonstrates the fine brushwork characteristic of Chinese export art from the late 18th or early 19th century, combining traditional Chinese flower-and-bird painting style and Western botanical illustration.
