Description

Album containing 52 watercolours by Turpin and Poiteau, the first 44 of them shown opposite the corresponding plate from Vol. VI of the 'Melastomacees', engraved by Bouquet "de l'Imprimerie de Langlois," Paris, 1815. The title page of the copy numbered 18 appears as the frontispiece. Bound with old red morocco boards, rebacked, gilt tooled with the arms and monogram of Louis XIV. The titles which follow are those inscribed in dark red ink on each sheet (lower centre). Each drawing is in graphite and watercolour with some bodycolour occasionally heightened with white, margins ruled in black ink on vellum, tipped in.
