Description

Soft-paste porcelain teapot and cover, painted with a Japanese pattern in polychrome enamels, and gilt.

Soft-paste porcelain teapot and cover, painted in orange, red, yellow, green, blue and pink enamels, and gilt. The globular teapot has a curved spout and ribbed loop handle, and a low footring. The slightly domed cover has a flower knob. The sides of the teapot are painted, probably in the atelier of James Giles, with a Japanese pattern, with four upright orange-ground panels with gilt trelliswork, each with a chrysanthemum head mons in reserve, separated by four flower sprays in famille-rose style. The handle and spout have a rococo motif in red. The cover is painted in en suite.
