Soft-paste porcelain sugar bowl and cover, transfer-printed in black with 'May Day', 'The Milkmaids' and a pastoral scene on the bowl, and three prints of ruins and trees on the cover.

Soft-paste porcelain sugarbowl and cover, transfer-printed onglaze in black. Circular with deep sides, standing on a footring; cover with double curve, surmounted by a flower knop with a stem and two leaves; interior flange. Decorated on the bowl with 'May Day', 'The Milkmaids' and a pastoral scene of a cowherd behind a standing cow, a recumbent cow, and another being milked in the distance. On the cover, three prints of ruins and trees. Black line round rim of both.
