Description

Soft-paste porcelain teacup and saucer, decorated the 'Marchioness of Huntley' pattern onglaze in polychrome enamels and gilt.

Soft-paste porcelain teacup and saucer, decorated onglaze with apple-green ground colour, iron-red, yellow, green, lilac and pink enamels and gilding. The circular cup has rounded sides and loop handle with kick terminal; the saucer has rounded sides without a well, and stands on a footring. The sup is decorated with the 'Marchioness of Huntley' pattern; the apple-green ground is edged with gilt rococo scrolls, from which hang two spiral sprays of flowers, separated by smaller sprigs. The rim is banded in gold. The inside has a central sprig. The saucer is decorated en suite.

The pattern is named because a dessert service of the same pattern was sold by the second wife of the 10th Marquess of Huntley in 1882.
