Description

Soft-paste porcelain teapot and cover, 'New Oval' form with a hollow flame-shaped finia, painted underglaze in blue, onglaze in pink and red enamel, and gilt.

Soft-paste porcelain teapot and cover, painted underglaze in blue, onglaze in pink and red enamel, and gilt. 'New Oval' form with a hollow flame-shaped finial. The body is decorated with a wide band of Imari-style 'Japan' pattern with below, a blue and a gold band, and above, a band of husks between gilt bands. The inside of the parapet is decorated with two sprays of gilt leaves and berries. The upper part of the spout is gilt overall and the lower part is decorated with panels containing pyramidal groups of gilt lines. The top of the handle is decorated with a gilt formal flower and down the outside there are husks and beads reserved in a gilt ground. The exterior of the finial is gilt overall. The top of the cover is decorated with a wide band of Imari-style 'Japan' pattern en suite with the body.
